Community Playgroups
Bringing the local community together to share and bond
What is a Community Playgroup?
A community playgroup is any not-for-profit playgroup managed and run by community members.
Very often, the people who organise it are also participants – they are parents or carers of children in the playgroup. Other community volunteers might also be involved.
Who Can Come to a Community Playgroup?
Community playgroups are for children under school age, as well as their parents or carers.
Many playgroups welcome everyone. These are known as general community playgroups.
Others focus on one element, interest or characteristic common to all participants. We call these playgroup types. Some of the many playgroup types include dads’ playgroups, young parent playgroups and language-based playgroups.
