What is a Supported Playgroup?
Supported playgroups are for families requiring additional support. There are many different supported playgroups. Some may focus on areas such as culturally and linguistically diverse families or First Nations families. Others may focus on dads and male caregivers or young parents. Others still focus on playgroups for children with disabilities.
Supported playgroups are initiated and led by a paid coordinator or facilitator. This role is often taken up by an agency worker or human services professional.
Supported playgroups are typically government-funded and have eligibility criteria. Within supported playgroups, families can extend their social network, just as they would with any other playgroup, but there is a focus on advice and support.
