Intergenerational playgroup project

A new intergenerational playgroup had its first session at Barwon Health's Percy Baxter Lodges in North Geelong in September as part of a pilot research project, the Intergenerational Playgroup Project.

Playgroup Victoria has partnered with the National Ageing Research Institute and Barwon Health to develop the project to improve social inclusion with aged care residents and engage these residents with local families by providing a positive environment in a community playgroup setting.

The playgroup is facilitated by an activities officer from Percy Baxter Lodges and an early childhood worker from the City of Greater Geelong. The pilot is a 20-week project and follows the success of BUPA Treasures Playgroup  based at the BUPA Bellarine aged care facility in Newcomb.
